March 13, 2010 · Leave a Comment
So it seems Porsche is serious about building a hybrid supercar, and knowing Porsche, they don’t do concept cars for nothing. With R&D sharing with VW and the launch of the hybrid Cayenne, don’t bet against the 918 hybrid. Also expect the evolution of the design language to make it to the next Boxster, just look at the interior shot!

Wow! This must be straight from a video game. This would make for a mean police patrol car when it’s mounted with gatlings instead of water cannons.

GM 2011 Chevy Volt Test Drive – 2011 Chevrolet Volt Pre-Production Test Drive – Popular Mechanics

Popular Mechanics has scored a drive of the Chevy Volt. I’d say this would be the interim longer term future for hybrids. An engine running solely to provide a charge to run the motors. This makes use of the efficient constant RPM running of the engine as well as the instant torque of the electric motor. Also easier to package as the engines are not needed to drive the wheels and there’s no need for complicated control systems and transmission to accomodate both power from the motor and the engine a la Prius.
